2009 US Open and Melanie Oudin - EPSN's Embarrassing Coverage

If you managed to suffer through EPSN's embarrassing coverage of the women's quarterfinals, reality finally set in for the teenage star from Georgia - Melanie Oudin. In 90 minutes, her storybook run through the U.S. Open ended with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to another teen - Caroline Wozniacki. Her family and friends were all dressed in matching black and yellow ``BELIEVE'' T-shirts, but T-shirts.

Unfortunately, shrieks and slogans could not change the inevitable - she lost because she simply was not good enough! In spite of the hype, Melanie proved she is not mentally and physically strong enough to win a Grand Slam tournament.

Aside from the play on the court, the ridiculous media coverage and ESPN slavering over the teen was disgusting! For the first time I can remember, the LOSER was interviewed before the winner. Pam Shriver made the absurd statement, "Well, we normally don't interview losers, but you're not a loser to us...". Are you kidding me?

I understand this country's yearning for a "Great-White-Hope", especially in women's tennis. However, let her WIN a tournament first, especially a Grand Slam, before we start making billboards. Anyone remember Russian-born Anna Kornikova?

I have no doubt that she will be making commercials within the next few months. Sponsors of skin cream, tennis shoes, IPODs etc. will be lining up to throw money at her.

Here's my suggestion for Melanie (and her twin sister) - cash in NOW before it's too late! Buy some breast implants and Goggle "Anna Kornikova" - she's been there and done that!
